Registry-style ceremonies by civil celebrants, not a government registry office. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

Shortening of Time

A shortening of time is permission to marry in less than one month after the NOIM is given.

It is only available in limited circumstances.

First things first

Before anyone can even look at a shortening request:

  • the NOIM needs to be given first
  • the basic paperwork needs to be in order
  • you need evidence supporting the reason for the request

It is not automatic

We cannot approve it ourselves.

A prescribed authority decides whether to grant it.

Common categories

Applications are usually based on one of the recognised categories, such as:

  • employment or travel commitments
  • wedding or celebration arrangements already made
  • medical reasons
  • legal proceedings
  • an error in giving notice

What helps

Strong evidence matters.

That can include letters, bookings, medical documents, court papers, or other records that explain why the request should be granted.

Our role

We can explain the process and what paperwork we need.

We cannot:

  • guarantee approval
  • make the decision
  • overrule a refusal
  • give legal advice

If you think this may apply, contact us early.
