What must happen in person
For a legal marriage:
- both parties must be there in person
- the celebrant must be there in person
- two adult witnesses must be there in person
- the legal words and signatures must happen in person
What can be done online
Some preparation can still be done remotely.
You can often:

The cheapest real alternative
If you want to get married cheaply without a big wedding, the closest thing to an online marriage is a short paperwork-only marriage in Sydney for $780. You do the prep online, then spend a short appointment with us and two witnesses.
